Todam Charcoal Grilled Dakgalbi
About This Spot
Stepping into Todam Charcoal Grilled Dakgalbi, nestled quietly by the river in Chuncheon’s Sinbuk-eup, you find a rhythm that feels both unhurried and alive—the kind that invites you to settle in and savor moments as much as the food. The spacious setting, with a choice between indoor comfort and fresh outdoor air, carries the gentle hum of locals sharing familiar stories, punctuated by the distant crackle of charcoal glowing beneath an open grill.
Here, dining becomes an intimate exploration of flavor and texture where the familiar comfort of dakgalbi takes on a nuanced form. Unlike the typical stir-fried versions you might expect, the chicken is lovingly grilled over high-quality charcoal, imparting a subtle smokiness that lingers with each bite. You might find yourself drawn to the purity of the salt-grilled chicken, its clean taste like a quiet conversation, or intrigued by richer, soy-based marinades that unfold a deeper, savory warmth. The meal, paired with refreshing sides and traditional makguksu, feels thoughtfully balanced—each element inviting you to pause and appreciate the care behind it.
The pace here isn’t rushed; there’s room to breathe and even to retreat a little, perhaps to a cozy nook where the soft glow of a fire offers a moment of quiet reflection. It’s the kind of place where repeated visits feel natural, where the familiarity of flavors and the ease of the environment keep you coming back—whether for an unhurried dinner or a quiet gathering with friends. Todam respects the calming presence of its riverside setting without fuss, offering warmth through charcoal grill smoke and a sincere dedication to its craft.
In this corner of Gangwon-do, Todam offers more than just a meal—it’s a chance to experience dakgalbi in a way that feels anchored in place and tradition, yet fresh in approach. Whether it’s your first visit or one of many, you’ll find something quietly compelling about the time spent at this table.

It was 1h bus from center Chuncheon to this restaurant, next to the river , very large and open, indooor or out door tables. Food and service is top notch and reasonable price here. Many locals ate and enjoyed this place. We were all satisfied and like this place.

Love the grilled chicken and makguksu and also lost count of the number of times I been here

An excellent option to try the famous Chuncheon dakgalbi. This version is different however as the chicken is grilled over charcoal rather than in a pan with vegetables and other toppings. I have to admit that I prefer this version better. The charcoal used at this place is high quality. They use large chunks of it, too. The chicken itself looks like thigh meat, but I could be wrong. There is a set you can order which includes 3 flavors: salt, soy sauce and spicy. It’s worth it to try all 3. Deodeok is also provided in the set. It’s the root of a native plant and has a nutty, fleshy texture and is excellent grilled. For the makgeolli lovers, the corn makgeolli is great. It’s more flavorful than the ones you buy at the supermarket. Overall experience, this place was great and worth a visit.

If wanna have a original chicken Gal-Bi(Korean BBQ), recommend to visit here and order chicken with salt menu. it's clean and good taste. also experience that chicken meat can be eaten like steak style.

This place was AH-MAZE-ING for the price it might have been a bit expensive and there are hundreds of other places that sell dakgalbi but I haven't been. The chicken was marinated perfectly IT WAS SOO GOOD! definitely worth a try! There seems to always be a line so get there earlier then later to avoid a long wait
